Postdoctoral training

Our post-doctoral training program aims to develop world-class research professionals and leaders.

The reNEW mission is to train postdoctoral fellows to succeed with confidence and skill, while assisting them in planning and pursuing their preferred careers successfully. Each postdoctoral fellow is encouraged to approach Group Leader outside of his/her home laboratory to explore and get support as a mentor. The mentor (Group Leader) offers an outside perspective on career development for the fellow.

The Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences is organising regular workshops on ‘How to apply for external postdoc funding’ and ‘How to write a grant proposal’. The workshops offer an extensive overview over grant opportunities and professional support for grant writing. It includes offers for individual consultation with research advisers from SUND Research & Innovation.

In addition to local training, reNEW offers mentoring programs at all node institutes to connect postdoctoral fellows and group leaders with a broader international network of mentors spanning all three sites.

Mentors and mentees

Mentors and mentees participate in structured workshops to facilitate the development of mentoring relationships and one-on-one partnerships are established to foster the specific aspirations of participants. These relationships enable junior researchers to seek guidance from mentors (beyond their own laboratory) who can share personal experiences and provide career advice through both formal (structured) and informal interactions with mentees.

reNEW provides a vehicle to expand the pool of mentors available to early- and mid-career researchers, thus capitalising on the breadth of expertise, diversity of experience, international training, and networks of reNEW researchers. To facilitate inter-node interactions, participants in reNEW mentoring programs are offered the opportunity to select mentors from other nodes. International mentor-mentee relationships will be facilitated through special networking events held in conjunction with inter-node conferences administered by the reNEW hub.
