Dr Tine Friis receives Junior Scholar Award
Dr Tine Friis receives Junior Scholar Award for her contributions to making the research field of Medical Science and Technology Studies more visible.
Dr Tine Friis is a postdoctoral researcher in the PREPARE team of the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Stem Cell Medicine, reNEW, and based at Medical Museion—a university museum for biomedical history and a research group at the Centre for Medical Science and Technology Studies (MeST), University of Copenhagen, Denmark. She examines the intersections between new biomedical developments and everyday perceptions, asking: in what ways do people feel encouraged to rethink their relationship to themselves and their bodies based on new biomedical developments? And how do they perceive the promissory potentials of such developments?
The award recognizes Dr. Friis for her contributions to making medical Science and Technology Studies (STS) more visible, in particular through the development of creative public engagements and contributions to policy reports. Through this, Dr Friis has shown the relevance of the interdisciplinary research field of medical STS in understanding the intersections between biomedicine and everyday perceptions of the body, self and health.

In her current research project, Dr Friis collaborates with participants in clinical trials to explore how they imagine the future of stem cell research. Her project does so with a focus on treatments for Parkinson’s disease.
