Business Development Specialist (special consultant)

The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Stem Cell Medicine, reNEW, based at Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen is looking for a Business Development Specialist starting as soon as possible or upon agreement.

The Center:

The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Stem Cell Medicine, reNEW has its Hub at UCPH as well as nodes at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, Murdoch Children’s Research Institute in Melbourne, Australia, and Leiden University Medical Center in Leiden, The Netherlands. Researchers within reNEW addresses fundamental questions in stem cell and developmental biology and aim to translate research findings to products that will help patients with incurable disorders such as congenital kidney disorders, chronic ulcerative disorders, neurological disorders, diabetes, bladder defects and chronic pulmonary conditions, fertility and liver disorders.

The reNEW Copenhagen Node is looking for a Business Development Specialist who can assist in identifying and developing exciting research findings into business ideas. Importantly, seed funding is available within the center to support the development of identified targeted projects and thereby prepare these ideas for the market. The role includes but is not limited to:

  • Scoping the Center’s research community for new projects and ideas with potential for developing business opportunities or licenses
  • Maintaining an overview of targeted research projects, agreements, and the implementation of partnerships.
  • Developing and coordinating relevant innovation and business development training for scientists at all levels
  • Performing patent searchers for targeted research projects
  • Supporting the identification of industrial partners and interactions with internal technology transfer stakeholders.
  • Advising and supporting researchers around potential invention disclosures, including scoping of the IP landscape, market evaluation, competitor evaluation and identification of targeted product profiles
  • Supporting applications for new funding opportunities for business development support arising from within the Center
  • Liaise with the Vice-Dean for Innovation and the UCPH Technology Transfer Office to ensure reNEW IP is protected and enabled, contract research is facilitated and innovation investment in reNEW outcomes is maximized
  • Be the link between reNEW and the local innovation ecosystem

You will be part of a thriving center with innovative researchers and administrative staff. You will be an essential part of the Node secretariat with easy access to reNEW Hub staff.

You will deliver advice and solutions to the Node scientists and management around business development and will be supporting the major aim of the center. You will also be a key-person in building and upholding relations to the other reNEW node Business Development Activities in Leiden and Melbourne, as well as creating productive cooperation with key-collaborators in Copenhagen.

We are looking for a colleague who:

Has substantial knowledge and experience within innovation and business development, preferably with a particular focus on drug development, cell therapies or gene modification.

Has a relevant academic education and background, e.g. a postdoc in biomedicine with experience/interest from industry.

Is proactive, responsive, detail-oriented and thrives in a busy environment

Is service-oriented without losing the overview and has a good understanding of people

Can pivot rapidly depending upon shifts in priorities

Is fluent in English. Knowledge of Danish is an advantage.

Preferably has documented experience in collaboration with senior scientists and management in a larger company, university or similar.

Preferably has some experience in public presentations and small group training

Node Organization:

You will report directly to the reNEW Copenhagen Node Director and Deputy Director.

The Node support serves the consortium organization in Copenhagen.

You will also liaise closely with the Vice-Dean for Innovation, within the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences and with the Technology Transfer Office of the University of Copenhagen.

Salary and terms of employment:

Salary and employment depend on your background under the Organization Agreement AC (special consultant) and the Ministry of Finance with the possibility of negotiating supplements depending on seniority, qualifications and competencies. Working hours are negotiable to accommodate potential additional roles but will be up to 37 hours per week incl. lunch. Accession as soon as possible.
